Based on the school curriculum
All students from Class 1 to Class 10 can apply. Questions asked in these exams are based on the school curriculum and suit all boards — CBSE, ICSE and State boards. The questions are objective in nature and the exam is conducted for 65 minutes. Olympiads act as one of the finest diagnostic and preparation instruments for other competitive exams, testing analysing skills along with the ability to explore various options.
Until 2019 it was mandatory for schools to register for these examinations; since 2020, Indian Talent Olympiad allows individual participation. Students can participate in subjects of their choice and opt for online exams — all they require is a smartphone to get started.
How the syllabus is structured
The Olympiad exam syllabus is divided into three sections: subjective questions, the High Order Thinking (HOT) section, and the logical reasoning section. All questions carry one mark each, and every subject in every class includes logical reasoning questions — ensuring students think out-of-the-box to arrive at the right answer.
- Class 1 to 4: 35 questions in 65 minutes.
- Class 5 to 10: 50 questions in 65 minutes.
The logical reasoning segment includes patterns, grouping of figures, ranking test, measuring units, geometric shapes, odd one out, analogy, spatial understanding, embedded figures, blood relations, direction sense test, mirror image, water image, paper folding, paper cutting, figure matrix, mathematical operations, cubes and dice, Venn diagrams, analytical reasoning, figure formation, puzzles, and ranking. These topics are seldom found in class textbooks — they enhance thinking abilities and give the mind exhaustive exercise from a young age.
