International Drawing Olympiad

Conducted once a year at national level in respective schools — a competition that enhances and sharpens creativity, letting students balance academics with co-curricular expression.

About the exam

Apart from excelling in academics, it is important for students to focus on soft skills such as drawing, painting and sketching. Many students in India have exceptional drawing skills, and teachers are best placed to identify students with an interest in different art forms. The Drawing Competition is open for students from Class 1 to Class 10 — drawing is the best form of expression, revealing true imagination.

How to participate

Syllabus and judging

The syllabus is set according to the age and class of students, different for each class from 1 to 10. Students are tested on their ability to draw, creativity, theme, colour combination, choice of topics, message conveyed and attractiveness. National-level winners receive cash awards, scholarships, excellence certificates and medals.

How to prepare

Know the syllabus, refer to good workbook resources, and start early. Practice from pictures, bring your own ideas to life, decide your view and start at eye level. Students pursuing fine arts, architecture, interior design, fashion design and other creative fields should take this exam — the pattern differs from other subjects, so prepare for IDO separately. Those who prepare for the Drawing Olympiad automatically score well in the Creative Ability Tests conducted by colleges and universities for creative courses.

Drawing Olympiad workbook

Workbooks for Classes 1–10 show different drawing patterns, strokes, colour combinations, ideas, perspectives and views, with step-by-step tutorials in every book. They can be purchased at a nominal cost — order online.

Monthly practice test series

Monthly drawing tests run for all classes from 1 to 10. Each month students draw one topic in front of the camera and upload it. Tests are online — laptop, mobile or tablet — with audio and video switched on at all times. ITO monitors students using artificial intelligence, including eyeball recognition, so there is no scope for tampering. Monthly winners receive cash prizes, scholarship awards, excellence certificates and medals.

To register for the monthly tests: use the student registration page, select International Drawing Olympiad (IDO) as your preferred subject along with any others, fill in the details and pay the fees — see the fee structure.
